Interviewing Skills
Last week Unisa held a research innovation week and on Friday there was a session called 'People Behind the Papers' which is like a sit in interview with people that have published. In Friday's session Dr Desmond Painter, from Stellenbosch, interviewed Dr Puleng Segalo, from Unisa. It was such an inspiring interview to watch. Puleng has been on an amazing academic journey so far and I can only hope to have such a cool academic career :)
Speaking about Desmond Painter, he facilitated an Interview Skills workshop with the MARC group on Wednesday and Thursday He is pretty amazing. So insightful and knowledgeable, but then again, all the lecturers and professors we've had are :)

Online Research Tools
The most important thing we learned today was: "Just because you pay for it, doesn't mean its better".
So here are a few open source sites to make use of. Happy researching :)
- 'R' Statistics - sorta like SPSS, but better supposedly lol
- Ubuntu - free operating system download
- filehippo.com
- Prezi.com - really cool "powerpoint-like" site. I love this one
- Coding Analysis Toolkit - for qual data analysis
- Mendeley
- SciPlore knowledge and discovery
